Who made these chess sets ?

Benedict Homer grew up in a fruitful artistic background where both parents are working artists it seemed only likely that Ben would graduate with BA Honours in Wood Metal and Plastic 3D design in England.

Ben furthered his skills from building up a workshop from old discarded college machinery in the heart of Worcestershire. From here he was involved in designing to manufacturing proto type models, cabinet making, and commissions to working in large international industries.

Some of these commissions include model making the official miniature version of the Shakespeare Birthplace in Resin for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in Stratford upon Avon, England, to making bespoke wood products for museum and private collections.

In collaboration with illustrators, and skilful model makers we have developed this range of chess sets after feeling there was a gap in the market for fun and collectable high quality games, and so developed our signature set Wild Animals of Africa chess set. Ben still kept in mind the traditional element of the game and so introduced the game to a new audience, and existing chess enthusiasts alike.

The pieces are very tactile and have been accurately modelled and beautifully hand painted, as it is important to us that the player would feel like the pieces would come alive. We selected each animal by its nature and position in the animal kingdom and recreated this on to the real wood chessboard; Ben has specially designed the boards with these chess sets in mind.

All chess pieces have Ben’s monogram and copy right on the backstamp.
